Layan Barakat is a Jordanian American architectural designer who is passionate about all things design - especially concrete. Nothing excites her more than an empty sketchbook, new stationery, and a cappuccino.
She completed her Bachelor of Architecture at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2015 and moved to Oakland for two years to learn the fascinating alchemical ways of creating concrete (GFRC) products.
During her year in Amman in 2017, by working as a researcher at GSAPP’s Studio X, a Graphic Designer for the National Democratic Institute and Independent Contractor for Concreteworks, she was able to pursue her various design interests even further. The time she spent travelling allowed her to discover a newfound passion for photography. She also joined some design competitions which sparked an interest in digital collage.
Layan completed her Masters of Science in Advanced Architectural Design at Columbia University GSAPP, and is currently residing in Brooklyn, NY.
